Workshops

Established in 2003 with our flagship Summer Workshop at Reed College, our workshop programming now includes intimate in-person Autumn and Spring workshops held in Portland, and robust month-long online sessions in Winter and Fall that feature writers from around the world.

Our workshop philosophy is not to “fix” or make manuscripts “better,” but to foster a community that helps writers achieve the goals and aspirations of their artistic practice.

Here, you will find support in and out of the classroom through one-on-one meetings with faculty, social activities, and participant-led affinity groups.

Each program has tailored scholarship opportunities that reflect a constant examination of what type of work and artists are and are not showing up in our workshops, as we aim to provide space to writers who are often marginalized by the publishing industry. We take the same approach to curating our faculty and cohorts.

We offer payment plans for all of our programs and, since 2019, have offered application fee waivers to any applicant who requests one.
